New technologies and methods are part and parcel of the generator industry, but the pace of change seems to be faster than ever these days. Backup power system manufacturers are adding features and functions to make generators quieter, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly. With every improvement comes an important question: do the technicians installing your generator have the skills and knowledge to provide the best service, considering the latest advancements?

GAL Power Systems participates in the Electrical Generator Systems Technician Certification Program to ensure our technicians’ skills are fully recognized as meeting the highest industry standards, and to demonstrate our ability to meet customers’ on-site backup power requirements. Administered by the Electrical Generating Systems Association (EGSA), the program tests technicians on 12 crucial aspects of backup power system installation and maintenance, including engine instrumentation and control, system troubleshooting, and proper documentation.

The testing is rigorous, investigating technician proficiency with 61 tasks, including:

  • Automatic Transfer Switches
  • Communication & Documentation
  • Engine Generator Instrumentation & Controls
  • Multiple Generator Switchgear & Controls
  • Troubleshooting System Problems
  • Auxiliary Support Systems
  • Prime Movers
  • Governors
  • Voltage Regulators
  • Generators/Alternators

To date, 12 of GAL’s technicians have successfully completed the course and are now EGSA certified. In fact, GAL is the first Canadian backup power solution provider to participate in the EGSA certification program.

When you work with GAL, you can be confident of our commitment to meet or exceed the specifications set out by the EGSA. Whether in the health care field, office and residential building management, events operation or engineering, our customers are assured that their backup power systems are installed to provide the most efficient, quiet and reliable electrical safety net possible.
